The African Climate Reality Project works with African Climate Leaders, governments, NGOs and scientists across the African continent to create tools and resources to support a network of leaders who mobilise communities from Algeria to Zimbabwe to find solutions to climate change.

ACRP is the continental branch of the Climate Reality Project, a global movement more than 5 million strong and a grassroots network of trained Climate Reality Leaders dedicated to spreading the truth of the climate crisis to communities everywhere and creating cultural momentum to solve it.

Job description

Reporting to the Civil Society Participation in Environmental Governance Project Manager, this position’s primary responsibility is to help administer and implement the activities of the project “Promoting Broader and Effective Participation of South African Civil Society in Environmental Governance”, an initiative of the African Climate Reality Project (ACRP) hosted by Food & Trees for Africa, in collaboration with three other non-profit organisations.

The Project Coordinator will provide administrative, financial and implementation support to the whole project team. He/she will help ensure sound financial management of the project within the scope of the budget, supporting the project team in achieving the best value for money.

Scope of the position:

1. Project administration

2. Basic bookkeeping

3. Support the implementation of project activities

4. Support the preparation of project reports


Candidates need to have the following skills:

1. Experience in project management

2. Excellent communication, written and verbal; fluency in English, knowledge of other South African languages preferable

3. Have professional and ethical standards

4. Excellent time and task management

5. Solid organisational skills, including multi-tasking

6. Matric accounting and/or bookkeeping diploma; knowledge of financial and accounting procedures

7. Excellent analytical and numerical skills

8. Proficient in MS Office application, especially MS Excel; Experience using financial software preferable

9. Proficient in data capturing, paying meticulous attention to detail

10. Operate efficiently and maintain a strong degree of accuracy

11. Self-motivated, disciplined, deadline-orientated, robust; ability to work under pressure

Type: Full-time position; fixed term contract (30 months, with possibility of extension depending on funding)
