Action 24 presents at the Conservation and Environmental Affairs Committee Meeting
On 27 May 2020, the Portfolio Committee on Conservation and Environmental Affairs of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature hosted a special meeting to Adopt Committee Report on the Department’s 2020/21 Budget – and have a presentation from Action 24 Implementing Organisation, South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA).
Shanice Firmin, Environmental Project Officer on Development, Infrastructure, Climate Change at SDCEA, presented Action 24 – Active Citizens for Responsive Legislatures to the Members of the Portfolio Committee. From our numerous submissions to Provincial Legislatures and National Parliament, the Model Youth Legislature Programme, our Small Grant Facility organisation’s work in supporting public participation in environmental governance – and more!
Shanice also presented the proposed Climate Change Colloquium and Staff Consultative Workshop that we hope to arrange as part of our engagement with the Provincial Legislatures through the Action 24 project.
Engaging with the Provincial Legislatures is an important aspect of taking part in the issues and decisions that affect our communities and our future – like South Durban’s notorious toxic air pollution – and we hope this engagement with the Portfolio Committee on Conservation and Environmental Affairs by SDCEA is the beginning of more constructive engagement to come.
