This booklet compiles basic concepts, information and facts that explain the rationale and features of public participation in the South African legislative sector. It does not claim to be exhaustive. Instead, it was designed to be as concise and to-the-point as possible so that it is a useful instrument to support the Action 24 objective, which is to strengthen environmental governance in South Africa through effective broader civil society participation in legislative processes.
One of the expected learning outcomes is enhanced citizens’ engagement capacity in law-making and legislatures’ oversight on matters pertaining to sustainability and climate-resilience.
