A notice was issued relating to Eskom’s intent to apply for postponement of the MES compliance timeframes for its coal and liquid fuel fired power stations in the Mpumalanga Highveld, Vaal Triangle and Cape Region.
The application is subject to Atmospheric Impact Assessments (AIRs) for the respective power stations, motivation for postponement and a public participation process (PPP).
The above mentioned notice highlighted the start of the 1st round of public engagements and scheduled public meetings for the project from 20 to 31 August 2018. All the public meetings have been conducted during this period except for public meetings scheduled in the areas of Kriel, Thubelihle, Phola and Emalahleni, which were cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
To address this, another public meeting has been scheduled in Emalahleni to provide interested and affected parties the opportunity to attend an engagement session as part of the 1st round of public engagements for the project.
