Her journey began in California in the 1970’s with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before returning to South Africa to lead Africa’s largest hotel chain at the time (Southern Sun Hotel Group) for 15 years as Purchasing and Contracts Manager. After, she went solo and trained under the United Nations Environment Programme’s Eco-Labelling Project, National Cleaner Production Centre’s Clean Production Programme at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Green Building Council’s Interior Design and Décor, Green Leaf Carbon Auditing. Her Green Home projects at Decorex and Hostex have won 12 awards to date with top honour.
In 2014, she qualified as an accredited Climate Reality Leader with former US Vice President Al Gore. Back in her hippie days in 1969, Lorraine started out with the infant Environmental Protection Agency with concerns about pollution, deforestation, overpopulation. Since then humans have added many more concerns including deforestation, ecocide, Monsanto’s genetically modified organism (GMOs) and the greatest problem of all, climate change.
Although she believes that things don’t change as quickly as we would like, she is a thought-provoking leader doing her best by educating people on social and environmental responsibility. Her recent speaking topics include The Impact of Climate Change on Tourism in Africa, Conscious Green and Sustainable Procurement, and Sustainable and Ethical Foods.
