World Environment Day

Plant and water it – every day
By Mohamed Billow

In Mandera county of Kenya, Mujtama Water Resource Users Association (WRUA) took the initiative to commemorate World Environment Day.

WRUA joined students from Mandera Township school and Duse Primary, and celebrated the day by planting several trees in the school compounds.

Our motto for this World Environment Day, which we instilled in the students, is to “Plant and water it – every day.”

The activity was attended by NEMA representative, MDM Fatuma Maalim, who also presented a speech on the menace of plastic pollution.

The day’s actions were very successful, and we appreciate the attendance of the administrators of both schools – who despite very busy schedules were able to sacrifice their time to witness the environmental custodianship of their students on this special, and memorable day.

We are extremely grateful and proud of all of the pupils and teaching staff who gave us the courage and support to plant trees, and take care of our environment.
